Fellow private equity billionaire Michael Arougheti is also expected to be involved in the deal. The Orioles have been mediocre — or straight-up awful — throughout most of Angelos’ ownership. The new owner, Rubenstein, is a Baltimore native and co-founder of The Carlyle Group, a Washington, DC-based private equity giant. If the sale is approved, Rubenstein will become the controlling partner in the ownership group, the key decision-maker. After the 94-year-old Angelos dies, the Rubenstein group will own all 100% of the club. The Orioles’ $1.7 billion valuation is nearly triple what the team was worth in 2014, according to Forbes.

PHOENIX (AP) — Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson was a unanimous pick for American League Rookie of the Year on Monday after a stellar all-around season that helped push the franchise to a 101-win season. The numbers were strikingly similar to Orioles Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr.'s first full season — another shortstop who won the award in 1982. The Baseball Writers' Association of American votes on postseason awards before the postseason begins. The 23-year-old Casas shook off a slow start to the season, hitting .263 with 24 homers. BALTIMORE (AP) — Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson, whose deft glovework and folksy manner made him one of the most beloved and accomplished athletes in Baltimore history, has died. Brooks was just a genuine person.”Coming of age before the free agent era, Robinson spent his entire 23-year career with the Orioles. Robinson contributed an RBI single in the second game and became forever a part of World Series lore with his standout performance in Game 3. The Series ended, fittingly, with a ground out to Robinson in Game 5, a 9-3 Orioles win. There’s a Brooks Robinson Drive in Pikesville, and the annual state high school All-Star game played at Camden Yards is named in his honor.

The name is Immaculate Grid, and with apologies to the surging Atlanta Braves — who had eight selections for the National League’s team in Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Seattle — it’s the hottest thing going in the sport. The grid — named for the immaculate inning, in which a pitcher strikes out the side on nine pitches — is a daily quiz in the form of a tic-tac-toe board designed by Brian Minter, a software developer in suburban Atlanta. He said the game averages about 200,000 players every weekday.
